Lenny Pozner’s Official Statement After Defamation Victory

This is a victory for truth and decency. Today marks an important turning point for victims of hoaxers and online harassers. Unimpeded, conspiracy theories distort truth and erase history. They dehumanize victims. They manipulate the public.

People like Fetzer who hide behind their computer screen and terrorize people grappling with the most unimagined grief were put on notice today. Social media companies that allow their platforms to be weaponized were put on notice today. We will continue to stand up for our rights to be free of your attempts to use our tragedy and our pain to line your pockets or gain internet “likes.”

Being compelled to test my son’s remaining tissue against my own, just to prove to these hoaxers that he existed and is my son, has been emotionally challenging. I want to thank my legal team who have handled this sensitive situation with respect. They continue to be champions of my rights and ultimately the rights of all victims of online defamation. Their work is historic, their dedication is invaluable, and I am humbled by their passion.

I also want to thank the volunteers of the HONR Network who continue to tirelessly dedicate their time and energy to the reporting of hoaxer content. There is still a lot of work to be done. But this was a significant step in the right direction. - Lenny Pozner - June 18, 2019
